چکیده

A methodology for the simulation of continuous time sigma-delta (Σ∆) converters is presented in this paper. This method permits the simulation of Σ∆ modulators employing continuous-time filters using a fixed-step algorithm. The analysis method is based on the discretization of a continuous-time model and using a discrete simulator, which is more efficient than an analog simulator. In our analysis approach, each samplingperiod is divided into a fixed number of steps. This transformation is exact in term of Noise Transfer Function and asymptotically exact in term of Signal Transfer Function (the Signal Transfer Function of the model rapidly tends to the continuous time model transfer function when the number of steps increases). Moreover, the ideal step-size can be estimated from the bandwidth of the input signal.

Multibit Continuous Time Σ∆ Modulators with a Reduced Number of Comparators

A drawback of continuous time Σ∆-modulators is their sensitivity to clock jitter. An appropriate way to counteract this is to use a multi bit feedback loop. This requires a high resolution multi bit quantizer. However, every extra bit in the quantizer doubles its complexity and power consumption. In this paper, a new Σ∆-modulator architecture is proposed. The implementation issues are discussed...

Time-Mode Signal Quantization for Use in Sigma-Delta Modulators

The rapid scaling in modern CMOS technology has motivated the researchers to design new analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architectures that can properly work in lower supply voltage. An exchanging the data quantization procedure from the amplitude to the time domain, can be a promising alternative well adapt with the technology scaling. This paper is going to review the recent development in t...

Behavioral modeling of continuous time ∆Σ modulators

A mixed-signal continuous time behavioral model of a continuous time delta-sigma modulator (CT ∆Σ) is presented. CT ∆Σ modulators, by their nature, are mixed-signal systems. That fact creates a discontinuity in the traditional IC design flow which assumes that “discrete” and “continuous” time domain designs require separate design tools. In this work, we present a top level behavioral CT ∆Σ mod...

Efficient hybrid continuous-time/discrete-time cascade ΣΔ modulators for wideband applications

This paper analyses the use of hybrid continuous-time/discrete-time cascade Σ∆ modulators for the implementation of power-efficient analog-to-digital converters in broadband wireless communication systems. Two alternative implementations of multi-rate cascade architectures are studied and compared with conventional single-rate continuous-time topologies, taking into account the impact of main c...
